Journalist Uma Singh murdered

Again a journalist murdered!

It was not a wonder when the 4Th organ of the government (journalist and/or press) were attacked during the war times. It was then when there was instability in the country and there was war,i mean civil war.But the one who has fought against the then government is now itself ruling with its government. And obviously the country is not in such a war as before. Then why again the same continues.I mean why again the press and the journalists are attacked again???

Yes i am talking about Uma Singh who was working at a local FM station, Radio Today, and Janakpur Today daily newspaper and was attacked by an unidentified group on her rented room in Rajauli, Janakpur on Sunday night. She died on her way to the capital for treatment.Three years ago, Singh's father Ranjit and elder brother Sanjay were abducted by Maoist cadres from Mirchaiya in Siraha district. Their whereabouts have not been known since. Singh is the fourth journalist to be murdered after the peace agreement and the first female journalist ever killed in the country.Singh, who began her career in journalism some six years ago, actively engaged herself in investigative reporting on Maoist excesses and Singh often received threats from Maoists for crusading against the excesses of Maoist cadres through her articles and stories, say her fellow journalist friends.

According to Singh's sister-in-law Lalitadevi, her husband Sanjay and father-in-law Ranjit were abducted for failing to pay donation to Maoists. The Maoists had even captured their house at Ghurmi Khola, which still remains under Maoist occupation. After Singh started to fight Maoist excesses through her writings, she too was targeted by them. She started receiving threats from Maoists, Lalitadevi said. "Due to security concern, she eventually moved out from Siraha and started championing her cause from Janakpur where she was killed," Lalitadevi said. Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded that the government initiate investigations into Singh's murder in connection with the disappearance of her father and brother.Lalitadevi said. Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded that the government initiate investigations into Singh's murder in connection with the disappearance of her father and brother. "We are not blaming anyone. All we demand is that the investigations must be conducted taking the disappearance of Singh's father and brother into consideration," said President of FNJ Dharmendra Jha. A five-member team has started investigating Singh's murder in Janakpur. Another team has been deployed to Singh's village in Siraha district as well. Police released those 25 suspects held in connection with Singh's murder after interrogation while four others were arrested on Tuesday for investigations. A source said the police will also be investigating Singh's murder keeping the disappearance of her father and brother as the investigation baseline.
Such disgusting activities should really be stopped in the law of rule.
